Mid-Century Rustic Home

LOCATION: Berkeley, CA

We love working on accessory dwelling units (ADUs), the term for basement or garage conversions, cottages or in-laws. These Berkeley residents contacted us when they outgrew their existing home and saw potential in an old and unused back cottage. Partnering with their architect, we oversaw this cobweb filled structure as it was expanded and given a second story, complete with a master suite and additional hall bath for two very design-savvy children. A large kitchen and living space is connected by a dramatic stairwell, which makes use of an existing skylight that fills the home with bright sunlight. Playful tile, orange accents and quirky lighting throughout the home unify an array of design elements ranging from mid-century modern to rustic to contemporary. Check out the upside down map of the world wallpaper in the downstairs half bath!
