From Salvage to Spa

This bathroom is nothing short of a showcase in green materials! The shower surround is custom recycled ceramic tile from the Bay Area’s own Fireclay, and the floors are Marmoleum. We designed a vanity from salvaged Douglas fir storm doors found stashed under the house, along with Kirei board, a panel made from the agricultural waste product sorghum stalk. A remnant of Richlite (recycled paper/resin) forms the counter, and the walls are plastered (by the owner!) with American Clay. One of the vanity doors from the original bath was repurposed as a jewelry cabinet, lined with more Kirei board. LED lighting and water efficient fixtures round out this notable, eco-friendly project.
