Vintage Blue and White Kitchen

This home’s original kitchen suffered from a poor layout and lack of storage. We kept the existing wall of cabinets, and hired a local cabinetmaker to match their sweet 1920s detailing for the remaining walls. The added workspace and built-in breakfast nook dramatically increase usable space, and a favorite feature is the open shelf for easy to reach cooking oils. Quartz counters contain recycled crushed mirrors for an eco-friendly way to add sparkle. Paired with barely gray paint, a watery blue subway tile backsplash from the Bay Area’s own Fireclay Tile keeps the small room feeling light and airy. Bright blue linoleum floors add contrast and a pop of fun, and were inspired by the owners’ favorite Le Creuset pots. with Erwan Illian, Cabinetmaker
